Growing Conditions

Vines age: 15+ years old. Vineyards selected for Merlot Estrella 1999 are situated in Valle de Uco, within the subregion of Anchoris.

Summer leading to 1999 vintage began with warm and dry weather conditions, offering ideal conditions for grapes to mature slowly. Temperature amplitude was a key factor, with a large difference between day and night records, developing well structured grapes in colour and aromatic complexity, ripe tannins and excellent sugar/acidity ratios.

Harvest

All grapes were harvested manually and selected at the vineyard itself, transported in small 20kg cases to the winery and immediately crushed.

Bottling

Blended and bottled by October 2001.

Winemaking

Traditional alcoholic fermentation of 7-10 days in temperatures between 78.8-82.4F, pumping over twice a day. Complete malolactic fermentation.

Aging

2.5 years in 2 selected French oak casks of 2500L and 4800L. Blended and bottled in 2001.
